Prague, 1942. During the Nazi occupation, one of the top leaders of the Third Reich is murdered by Dr. Svoboda, a member of a Czech resistance network. The doctor takes refuge in the house of Professor Novotny, a former revolutionary, thanks to the help of Mascha, his daughter. Meanwhile, the Gestapo has begun arrests and interrogations to discover those responsible for the attack. To prevent the Nazis from carrying out an indiscriminate hunt, the resistance hands over a collaborator to the Germans in Svoboda's place.
