Paul Javal (Michel Piccoli), a French playwright, agrees to rewrite some scenes for "The Odyssey", a film that is to be shot in Capri under the direction of renowned German director Fritz Lang (Fritz Lang). In his first meeting with the American producer, the arrogant Prokosch (Jack Palance), the writer lets his wife, the beautiful Camille (Brigitte Bardot), go in the car with the producer to his estate.
