In Berlin, Oren, an Israeli construction engineer, becomes infatuated with pastry chef Thomas. The romance doesn't even seem to have begun when Thomas discovers that Oren has died in a car accident in Jerusalem. Thomas travels there without knowing exactly what he is looking for. He discovers that Oren's wife, Anat, owns a café, and offers Oren a very basic job, consisting of cleaning and scrubbing pots and pans. Thomas does not reveal his talent in the kitchen until Anat's son's birthday, when he decides to prepare some pasta. This does not sit well with the religious Motti, Oren's brother. Furthermore, Thomas is German, the food a goy prepares is not in accordance with Jewish law, and a cafe in Jerusalem loses customers without the kosher certificate. Anat, however, is not religious and praises Thomas for the dedicated worker he is and for the love that the growing number of customers have taken in his bakery.
