DELICATESSEN was the personal, fascinating and surreal feature film debut of the tandem Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro. In post-apocalyptic France, the population is divided into two classes: those who eat and those who are eaten. Louison, an unemployed circus clown, arrives in a building inhabited by unique characters and whose owner, Clapet, also runs the butcher shop located on the ground floor. In exchange for housing and board, Louison must take care of the building's maintenance tasks. Julie, the butcher's daughter, also lives in that ogre castle, who falls in love with Louison. Clapet plans a future for Louison that Julie is not very happy with, so she asks for help from the vegetarian troglodytes who live underground.
