In the early 1980s, an Israeli businessman and adventurer, Yossi Ghinsberg, traveled to Bolivia with the intention of entering the Amazon jungle. There he meets Marcus Stamm, a Swiss school teacher, and his friend Kevin Gale, an American photographer. When they arrive in La Paz, Yossi is approached by a mysterious Austrian geologist, Karl Ruchprecter, who, convinced of the existence of a lost native tribe, proposes an expedition to search for them in the jungle. Yossi believes him and convinces Marcus and Kevin to join them. But they soon discover that Karl lacks the necessary information and experience to guide the expedition. After separating into two groups, Yossi's boat is destroyed by the river and he, stripped of food and tools, tries to find his way in the jungle looking for a village and testing his ability to survive.
