American aviation lieutenant Lee Crawford is shot down by the Japanese while attacking the bridge over the River Kwai in Thailand. Despite everything, he manages to escape and is rescued by a British commando led by Colonel Grayson, with whom he collaborates on a mission: to stop a train to free prisoners of war destined to work for the Japanese.
