Despite being half brothers, Michael and Bruno are totally different. They only have in common a mother who never took care of them and who left them in the care of their paternal grandmothers to continue having a good time. Michael is an introverted molecular biologist who doesn't seem interested in anything other than genetic research. Bruno is a slave to his sexual fantasies and pays to make them come true.
Toco changes when the two discover love in their late thirties. Michael reunites with his childhood sweetheart Annabelle , and Bruno meets Christiane who shares his sexual obsessions and enjoys them. Luck finally seems to smile on them, but fate plays a trick on them: the two women suddenly become seriously ill. Stunned by the news, Bruno and Michael must face reality and decide if it is worth living a delicate relationship with their partners or if they prefer to return to their previous loneliness.
The press has said...
Le Parisien - Catherine Balle
Without faithfully following the novel, director Oskar Roehler knows how to restore the atmosphere of disenchantment with great delicacy.
Le Point - Françoise-Guillaume Laurent
He knows how to capture the discomfort of the protagonists.
Paris Match- Alain Spira
Some irreproachable interpretations.
Silver Bear for Best Actor to Moritz Bleibtreu at the 2006 Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale)
