Kouga and Iga were ninja clans fighting for more than 400 years. The Keichou era was passing, 1614, when Ieyasu, who was then 73 years old, decided that it was time to choose his successor. Ieyasu hesitated between his grandchildren: Yakechiyo, who was older but stupid, and Kunichiyo, younger but intelligent. To solve this dilemma Ieyasu decided to confront the two clans of Kouga and Iga in a fight. If Kouga were the winner, Kunichiyo would be the new Shogun. Otherwise, the Shogun would be Yakechiyo. The two feuding clans had enjoyed several years of peace since Hattori Hanzou forced them to reach a truce. Years in which Gennosuke, from Kouga, and Oboro, from Iga, fell in love. Now, the battle between Kouga and Iga is about to begin, and the twenty designated ninjas will fall one after another.
