En la película, Hitler es impotente, se orina en la cama y sufre todavía bajo los abusos infligidos por su padre cuando era un niño. En una situación así, Hitler es incapaz de convencer a su pueblo para luchar por la guerra total. Por ello, a fin de motivar a Hitler, el ministro nazi de Propaganda, Joseph Goebbels, hace sacar de un campo de concentración a un profesor de actuación para que le imparta clases al tirano. Levy, quien recibió en 2005 los Premios del Cine Alemán con su comedia sobre una familia judía en Alles auf Zucker! (El juego de Zucker), asegura que con su nueva película pretende arrebatar a Hitler y los nazis cualquier forma de credibilidad, grandeza y petrificación monumental. En Alemania se recuerda muy a menudo en documentales y películas lo que han hecho los nazis. Esto no se hace de manera positiva, sino crítica, pero todo está cargado de afán documental en busca de la verdad y la realidad. Yo no quiero entrar en esa línea, dijo Levy. El director, de 49 años y residente en Berlín desde 1980, asegura que pretende más bien seguir la tradición de El gran dictador, de Chaplin, o Ser o no ser, de Lubitsch.
