In 1933 Primo Carnera achieved the title of World Heavyweight Boxing Champion. He was the first Italian to win the title, a feat that no other Italian boxer ever repeated. Carnera continued his career in wrestling and took advantage of his notoriety to fight in the resistance against Mussolini and the Nazis.
