The writer Kenneth Magee bets $20,000 with his editor that he can write a horror novel in 48 hours and to do so he moves to an old mansion in Wales. But their efforts are interrupted by the arrival of several people at the house. It turns out that they are all members of the Grisbane family, owners of the mansion. Kenneth learns that forty years ago a family member, Roderick, was locked in the attic and treated like an animal after he raped and killed a woman.
