Achille De Bellis (Carlo Verdone) is the General Manager of a large hotel chain owned by his wife, Gigliola (Agnese Nano) and his brother-in-law Guglielmo (Paolo Triestino). He seems to have everything a man could want: a nice house, a high-class marriage, and an excellent professional position. However, as her silver wedding approaches, all the certainties of her life are disrupted when she bumps into a 23-year-old character named Orfeo (Silvio Muccino). Orfeo lives in a working-class neighborhood in Rome. Like his friends, he lacks ambition, and manages to stay afloat with small, unskilled jobs, while spending his afternoons in meaningless chats and discussions. He never knew his father, but he grew up quickly, forced to take care of his unbalanced mother, Annarita (Sara Bertelà), who is unable to cope with the daily routine and whose mood fluctuates between depression and euphoria. When Achille fires Annarita for being a thief, Orfeo is convinced that his mother has been unjustly accused, and decides to take revenge. He begins to follow Achille to discover his weaknesses and ruin his existence. Achille's greatest weakness is Ramona (Corinne Jiga), his sister-in-law. Everything also gets complicated for Orfeo, when he falls in love with Cecilia (Ana Caterina Morariu). After their first meeting, curiously the lives of Achille and Orfeo begin to fall apart in parallel, although this forced closeness will explode into a strange friendship, a father-son relationship.
