RADIO FAVELA is based on the history of the station, which emerged in a large favela in Belo Horizonte in the eighties. Audacious programming and spontaneous language were the keys that made it conquer a large number of listeners. Around eighty thousand people lived in the favelas of that city. During the twenty years that it existed, the station was closed several times by the police, but it always continued broadcasting, winning the appreciation of the people. Their work deserved an extensive article in the Wall Street Journal in February 1999. After all the problems it experienced, the station was officially authorized by the Brazilian Ministry of Communication in February 2002.
