Simon is one of the numerous stylites that proliferated in Egypt at the beginning of the Christian Era, saints or ascetics who, on top of a column, prayed in the middle of the desert. The character is historical. The believers, to whom he preaches, gathered at his feet. That's how 14 years passed. In the film, Simón moves to a new column that a believer has built for him by doing the strangest things on it. In the end Satan manages to transfer him to New York where Simón will see bars with people dancing. "Vade Retro" murmurs...
