Benny, Monk and Matthew are three small-time criminals who, after being chased by the New York police, find safe refuge in an abandoned parish. When the patrollers find them, they will immediately confuse them with the true religious who had to arrive to relaunch the battered social work of the mission, with which they will be forced to take care of preparing the place, giving mass and feeding the hungry. The three thieves must then decide whether to take a new turn in their lives and stay in the church or return to their already familiar job and steal all the money from the work and run away with it. Filmed in New York by Edgar G. Ulmer, the king of the B Series, who on this occasion undertook a friendly and well-intentioned comedy project on paper, far from his tortuous and obsessive noirs. Despite facing the same shortage of resources and time as on previous occasions, the film exudes so much charm and humor that it manages to transcend its modest production, becoming one of his most pleasantly remembered films.
