Yellowleg, a former Union soldier, convinces a pair of fugitives to together rob a bank in a remote town. However, before they can carry out the robbery, another group of thieves overtakes them, starting a shootout in which the son of a cabaret owner is killed. Yellowleg, feeling responsible, decides to accompany the grieving mother on her trip to Siringo, a distant city now located in Apache territory, where the burial will take place. After the cancellation of the television series The Westerner, actor Brian Keith is hired to star in a western film. Not yet having a director, Keith suggests hiring the young creator of the series he had been working on, an unknown filmmaker named Sam Peckinpah. In this way "The Deadly Companions" ("The Deadly Companions", 1961) would become the film debut of one of the most recognized directors in history, author of "The Wild Bunch", 1969), " Straw Dogs" ("Straw Dogs", 1971) or "The Getaway", 1972).
