Spain, late 1940s. Julia suffers from deep depression due to the imprisonment of her boyfriend José Miguel, a prominent anti-Franco painter. The only daughter of a wealthy family, she is a very cultured woman, who has been educated in Switzerland and England, has a degree in Philosophy and Letters and who wants to be a writer. His despondency is such that he decides to leave Madrid and go spend some time in the small Asturian town of Cerralbos del Sella, where the large family mansion - "Llendelabarca" - is located, where he lived the happy summers of his childhood.
