Spain, late 1940s. Julia suffers from deep depression due to the imprisonment of her boyfriend José Miguel, a prominent anti-Franco painter. The only daughter of a wealthy family, she is a very cultured woman, who has been educated in Switzerland and England, has a degree in Philosophy and Letters and who wants to be a writer. His despondency is such that he decides to leave Madrid and go spend some time in the small Asturian town of Cerralbos del Sella, where the large family mansion - "Llendelabarca" - is located, where he lived the happy summers of his childhood. Aunt Gala, the guard, who lives with her daughter-in-law Pilara and her grandson Juanito, is waiting for her there. Julia's relationship with them, with the teacher Don Orfeo and even with the unfortunate priest Don Matías, means that, perhaps, for the first time in a long time, the young lady from the capital does not feel alone.
