Mussolini: The Untold Story [DVD]

This miniseries is based on the memoirs of Vittorio Mussolini, the eldest of the Italian dictator Benito Mussolini's sons. In Italy in 1922 Mussolini is accumulating power with the use of his "black shirt" militia. "Il Duce"'s dream of reviving the glories of the ancient Roman empire and rising as a new Caesar seduces the Italian people, igniting their nationalist fervor. The peak of its popularity came in 1935 with the Italian invasion of Abyssinia (Ethiopia). In 1938 the Munich Conference took place, and Mussolini joined the useless policy of appeasement of France and England, the result of which was the cession of the Sudetenland, a region of Czechoslovakia, to Germany. However, he supported Hitler's Nazi Germany and dragged his country into the greatest war known to humanity, when the Second World War broke out. The adverse development of the war ultimately leads to a catastrophic defeat for Italy. Parallel to his political and military activity we witness the most intimate part of Benito Mussolini's life. The affection for his long-suffering wife Raquel and his children, as well as the passionate relationship with his lover Clara Petacci, who did not hesitate to share the fate of the dictator during his final fall.
