Sparke Thorton (Lon McCallister), a city boy with a tendency to get into trouble, goes to live with his aunt and uncle JP “Thunder” and Peggy Bolt (Walter Brennan and Charlotte Greenwood) on the couple's farm in the countryside. The Bolts have almost abandoned horse breeding and only have one trotter left. When the boy meets Char (Jeanne Crain) and Cri-Cri (June Haven), two beautiful girls who live near the ranch, he learns to love horses and appreciate life outdoors. Sparke then decides to raise a filly and become a champion equestrian, for which he will have the help of his uncle and a trainer, Jed Bruce (Ward Bond). There was no genre that the great director Henry Hathaway did not address, always with skill and inspiration, whose figure as a filmmaker has grown over the years. In this case, horse racing serves as the basis for narrating a romantic story with a friendly and bucolic tone. The film received an Oscar nomination for Best Color Cinematography, and much of it was shot at racetracks in Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio.
