

Based on William Shakespeare's play 'King Lear' and adapted to medieval Japan in the 16th century, Akira Kurosawa's masterpiece tells the story of the powerful Hidetora Ichimonji who, old and tired, decides to abdicate and pass power to his three sons. . The youngest son, Saburo, prophesies that the kingdom will not remain united and that the brothers will destroy each other. The old man feels betrayed by his son and banishes him. It is not long before the eldest son, Taro, banishes his father and together with his other brother, Jiro, prepares an ambush to kill their father.
