Bruno has escaped from prison and wanders the streets of Grenoble with the purpose of settling pending accounts after fifteen years of confinement for an act of terrorism. While suffering the tenacious pursuit of Pascal, a police officer who has serious personal problems, Bruno realizes that the causes and old methods of fighting no longer work. After discovering that his former lover has married and left the organization, Bruno seeks refuge at the holiday residence of Cécile, Agnès' friend, who is also Pascal's wife...

Second part of Lucas Belvaux's trilogy about his vision of the great issues of human existence. The main characters of this film become secondary characters in the other parts of the trilogy and vice versa. The three films touch on three different genres and have some scenes in common shown from different points of view depending on the story of each film.
