In their effort to peacefully coexist with white settlers, a Cheyenne tribe decides to resettle in another territory, thereby sacrificing their precious Wyoming hunting grounds to make way for gold prospectors. Also participating as a guide on the tribe's resettlement trip, led by Colonel Lindsay (John Lund), is a seasoned explorer, Josh Tanner (Robert Wagner), and his Cheyenne friends Little Dog (Jeffery Hunter) and American Horse (Hugh O. ?Brian). But the attraction that develops between Little Dog's fiancée (Debra Paget) and Tanner threatens to derail the resettlement plans, and the tribe sends an arrow with a white feather, a symbol of their intention to declare war.
