Michel Descombes (Philippe Noiret) is a watchmaker who lives and works in the Saint-Paul neighborhood of Lyon. Abandoned by his wife years ago, Michel raised his son Bernard alone, Bernard being already a young man of eighteen years. One morning, after waking up somewhat dazed from having drunk the night before with some friends, Michel receives a visit from some police officers who ask him to accompany them. His son seems to have gotten himself into deep trouble...With a great sense of reality, director Bertrand Tavernier directed this fabulous thriller with political overtones, winner of the Silver Bear and nominated for the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival in 1974 and winner of the Louis Delluc Prize in 1973.
