The year is 1850. The territory of California wants to become the thirty-first state in the union, but certain unscrupulous individuals, members of a mysterious medieval organization, are determined to prevent it.
Once again, Zorro, the masked hero, must come to the aid of the inhabitants of California so that they can become citizens of the United States of America.
At the same time, McGivens (NICK CHINLUND), a corrupt and unscrupulous tycoon, is dedicated to intimidating the decent inhabitants of California by seizing their land and threatening their livelihood. Once again, only Zorro can stop him.
Don Alejandro de la Vega (ANTONIO BANDERAS), who inherited the Zorro mask, is now married to Elena (CATHERINE ZETA-JONES) and they have a ten-year-old son, Joaquín (ADRIÁN ALONSO). The boy misses his father, who is rarely home. And when he is there, Joaquín wishes Don Alejandro would behave more like Zorro, his idealized hero, because he ignores that the two men are the same person.
At the same time, Elena forces Alejandro to choose between his family and his alter ego's crusade. When an unexpected crisis forces Alejandro to don the Zorro mask once again, Elena feels betrayed and throws him out of the house; Shortly after, he hands her the divorce papers.
When Elena's old classmate, French aristocrat Army (RUFUS SEWELL), moves to California to establish a winery, he is delighted to discover that Elena has separated from her husband. He immediately begins to court her, while also attending to his duties as head of the Knights of Aragon, an ancient secret brotherhood.
In this way, Don Alejandro finds himself in a dilemma because he has to choose between his obligation to care for the oppressed and threatened people of California and his responsibilities as a husband and father.
