During World War II Japan was divided into two parts. In Aomori, controlled by EE.UU. forces, two young people live, Hiroki and Takuya, their main interests being Sayuri, and a gigantic, mysterious tower visible on the horizon of Hokkaido under the rule of the Soviet Union. One day they decide to build their own airplane and fly to the tower, but before they can begin Sayuri and Hiroki are transferred to different schools in distant Tokyo. Three years later, Sayuri falls into a deep coma and they understand that the only way to help her, and probably even save the world, is to keep their promise when they were kids.
