Vampir Cuadecuc is possibly the key film to understand the transition that occurs in the Spanish cinematographic field from the period of the 'new cinemas' (allowed by the Franco administration) towards clandestine, illegal practices or open opposition to the Franco regime. It consists of a film based on the filming of the commercial film Count Drácula , by Jesús Franco. Portabella exerts two types of violence on the standard narrative: it completely eliminates color and replaces the soundtrack with a landscape of image-sound collisions in collaboration with Carles Santos. Filmed provocatively, in 16mm and with sound negative, the tensions between black and white favor the strange 'phantasmatic materialism' of this revealing analysis of the mechanisms of construction of the illusionism of dominant narrative cinema, which at the same time constitutes a radical intervention in the Spanish film institution.
