May 1890. Vincent Van Gogh (Jacques Dutronc) arrives in Auvers-sur-Oise and settles in the modest Ravoux pension. There he befriends Dr. Gachet (Gérard Séty), an admirer of his work, and his daughter Marguerite (Alexandra London ). Devoted to painting and obsessed with capturing the flow of nature and the temperament of the people he meets, his life oscillates between his stays at his brother Théo's house (Bernard Le Coq) and his encounters with a prostitute (Elsa Zylberstein). Saddened by being a burden to his brother, seeing that his work is not recognized by the saints of the art market and fearing a new attack of madness, he will make a dramatic decision.
