During the EE.UU. Civil War, a strange, gigantic sea creature sinks any ship that crosses its path. The “Abraham Lincoln”, a North American navy ship, is sent to the area to investigate the mysterious shipwrecks. The monster turns out to be a fantastic submarine, the “Nautilus”, commanded by Captain Nemo: a man of enigmatic character who seeks revenge on the English adventurer Charles Denver who, some time ago, when Nemo was a prince in India, caused the death of the Nemo's wife, Princess Daaker, and the disappearance of their young daughter. First and extraordinary film version of the well-known novel of the same name written by the visionary writer Jules Verne, whose plot also integrates elements from different works by the French author, among others from “The Mysterious Island.” Directed by pioneer Stuart Paton, this version is also notable for its innovative work with underwater photography by brothers George and Ernest Williamson. No actual underwater cameras were used, but a system of airtight tubes and mirrors allowed underwater scenes to be filmed in waters dimly lit by the sun.
