Born in 1850 in what is now Poland, Franz Poenitz was one of the harp's greatest composers and virtuosos. He began studying composition at the age of 11 and continued to do so throughout his career, focusing primarily on works for harp and harmonium, another instrument of which he was a virtuoso.
