

Year 1870. Matt Fletcher (Marlon Brando) is a lone buffalo hunter who returns to his town, on the Rio Grande border, with an appaloosa stallion. His intention is to leave his nomadic life, settle down and dedicate himself to horse breeding. So when a Mexican bandit, Chuy Medina (John Saxon), steals his horse, Matt does everything he can to try to get it back.
Prieto, a small American town on the border with Mexico in 1870. Matt Fletcher, Mateo, is a solitary buffalo hunter who returns, after many years away, with an excellent stud horse of the Appaloosa breed. Mateo's intention is to leave his nomadic life, settle down and dedicate himself to raising horses on the ranch he wants to set up with Paco, his childhood friend, and thus fulfill an old dream. Once in the town he finds himself involved in a incident with Trini , forced girlfriend of Chuy Medina, head of a local gang of bandits. The girl takes Mateo's stallion to try to escape, but Chuy's men capture her and he, after humiliating Mateo, decides to keep the stallion to wash away his wounded pride. But Mateo is willing to do everything possible to get his horse back.
