At the end of the 19th century, El Albergue Rojo is an inn that patiently awaits the arrival of new clients. For several years, the owners, Martin (Christian Clavier) and Rose (Josiane Balasko), helped by their clumsy adopted son, have made a habit of killing guests who travel alone to steal their belongings. One night, a large group of travelers stay at the inn, among them is Father Carnus (Gérard Jugnot). Rose decides to settle accounts with God and ask forgiveness for her sins, so she confesses her sinister habits to Father Carnus, and also tells him that they plan to end the lives of all newly arrived guests. Father Carnus must manage to alert his companions without violating the vow of secrecy of confession.
