Max Rothman (Johnn Cusack), a promising young artist, loses an arm in World War I and, with it, his ability to paint. Upon his return, he opened what would become an acclaimed modernist art gallery. There he will meet another war veteran and budding artist named Adolf Hitler. Max encourages Adolf to develop his talent and channel his radical beliefs into his art. Ruined and without family or friends, politics will soon overtake Adolf's interest in art, thus beginning the most sinister period of the 20th century...
