Synopsis:
In this dazzling drama, based on real events that occurred in Greece 480 years BC. C., Richard Egan plays the role of the Greek Leonidas, under whose command three hundred Spartan soldiers faced the impressive Persian army at the Battle of Thermopylae. Although he has failed to recruit all the soldiers he needs to defend a crucial mountain pass from the attacks of the Persian King Xerxes, Leonidas undaunted prepares for battle. When someone warns him that the enemy will shoot so many arrows against his tiny contingent that they will "darken the sky," Leonidas responds that, in that case, his army will "fight in the shadows." Thanks to its magnificent photography, its impressive realism and its thrilling music, this story of courage and dedication constitutes one of the outstanding peaks of cinematographic art.
