As a result of a fatal work accident while cutting meat, Rafael has been castrated. However, Rafael keeps his dream of starting a family alive. One early morning, when he drives the van to his butcher shop, he sees a young woman being mistreated by a man. Rafael stops to help her and takes her home to cure her. The girl's name is Marina and her attacker's name is Daniel. Both have grown up together with no other family or emotional bond than that of each other, but Daniel does not want the son that Marina hopes for and to whom she aspires to give the love and family environment that she never had. Upon hearing the news that Daniel has been imprisoned, Rafael offers to take care of Marina and the unborn baby. She, even knowing that one day Daniel will reappear, accepts Rafael's proposal and thus, perhaps, both can fulfill their dream of creating a happy family. Years after the birth of his daughter Estrella, Daniel reappears, badly injured and bloodied. Rafael, afraid of losing Marina, agrees to let Daniel live in the house with them and even continue having relations with her.
