Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, known as The Desert Fox, is the most popular and beloved of Hitler's generals. At the beginning of 1944, and with the imminent landing in Normandy, he was in charge of organizing the defense against the Allied troops. From his headquarters in France, Rommel soon forges a close relationship of trust with his new assistant, General Spiedel.
Faced with the growing threat of a decisive Allied attack and Hitler's refusal to provide Rommel with more forces, Spiedel tries to convince him to join the generals planning to overthrow Hitler. As the situation worsens, Rommel appears willing to join the conspirators. However, three days before the attack on the Führer, Rommel suffers serious injuries as a result of an Allied attack. Hitler manages to survive the attack and, after capturing Seidel, Rommel is accused of knowing the details of the conspiracy, but Hitler cannot afford to prosecute his most popular general.
