Matthew Hopkins is England's most important witch hunter. He travels with Stearne, his brutal assistant, through the countryside, providing his services where he is called and taking advantage of the eventual trials (through the carnal pleasures that could be offered to him by those young girls accused of witchcraft who wanted to live a little longer and allowed themselves convinced by the sinister hunter's promises of forgiveness). To do this, he marries her with God as a witness and leaves to fulfill his duties as a soldier and be attentive to Hopkins' presence in the villages he visits.
