Based on true events, "Argo" recounts a secret, life-or-death operation to rescue six Americans in the middle of the Iran hostage crisis, focusing on the (little-known) role that the CIA and Hollywood played (information that was not declassified until many years after the event). On November 4, 1979, as the Iranian revolution reached its peak, some militants stormed the US Embassy in Tehran and took fifty-two American prisoners. However, in the midst of the chaos, six of them managed to escape and found refuge at the home of the Canadian ambassador, Ken Taylor. Knowing that it is only a matter of time before they are found and, most likely, killed, the Canadian and American governments ask the CIA to intervene. The CIA turns to its specialist, Tony Méndez, who draws up a plan to get the six Americans out of the country safely...
