The Enguri River is the border between Georgia and the Republic of Abkhazia. Tensions between the two countries have not eased since the 1992-93 war. Each spring, the river brings fertile soil from the Caucasus to the plains of Abkhazia and northwestern Georgia, creating small islands: little clusters of no man's land. Our story begins when an old farmer from Abkhazia sets foot on one of the islands. The old man builds a cabin for himself and his teenage granddaughter, he plows the land and together they plant corn. The corn ripens and the granddaughter blooms, the old man faces the inescapable cycle of life.
