Compuesto por 25 pistas y con ocho compositores diferentes, esta edición celebra lo mejor de Giovanni de Macque y sus contemporáneos en la tardía década de 16 en Nápoles. Cada pieza proviene del manuscrito de Luigi Rossi, una colección compilada en 1617 que sobrevive hasta hoy, dándonos una extraordinaria visión de las composiciones de teclado escritas para los aristócratas que gobernaban el Reino de Nápoles en ese momento. De hecho, en un momento en que las familias ricas se esforzaban por mantener su poder y su influencia mientras que las clases bajas se beneficiaban de una aguda recuperación económica, la música de esta época era muy compleja, aún dirigida exclusivamente a las cultas clases altas: el extremo cromatismo, así como el uso extensivo de la polifonía y la audacia armónica son rasgos comunes de estas obras.
