Paul Wranitzky nació el mismo año que Mozart, 1756, y murió un año antes que Haydn, 1809. Como figura destacada en la vida musical de Viena, conoció a ambos y también estuvo presente en la carrera de Beethoven. Nacido en Moravia, la educación temprana de Wranitzky parecía anticipar una carrera en la iglesia, pero sus habilidades como violinista y compositor principiante comenzaron gradualmente a cambiar el enfoque de su vida hacia convertirse en un músico independiente en Viena. Los tres tríos de esta grabación fueron compuestos en la segunda mitad de la década de 1780 y principios de la década de 1790, justo cuando Wranitzky comenzaba a establecerse como una figura importante en la vida musical de Viena. Su fácil dominio del medio en términos de una sonoridad equilibrada y constantemente variada es evidente en los tres trabajos. Ensemble Cordia se ha especializado en actuaciones estilizadas e históricamente informadas de la música de esta época, descubriendo mucha música hermosa y olvidada en el proceso. Su disco anterior en Brilliant Classics fue de música de cámara del hermano de Paul Wranitzky, Anton, y obtuvo éxito crítico.
