Esta edición es el primer resultado de una colaboración entre el Concurso Internacional de Guitarra Barrios y Brilliant Classics. La ganadora del Primer Premio en 2011, Elise Neumann, presenta un excelente recital de obras para guitarra sola, cubriendo un período desde la década de 1920 hasta la década de 1960, con obras de Barrios y obras de compositores españoles e italianos como Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Ponce y Asencio, llenas de la luz y el color del Mediterráneo. Sus propias composiciones estaban impregnadas de las melodías, ritmos y canciones folclóricas de su patria latinoamericana, y tan intuitivamente adaptadas al instrumento que adquirió una reputación como el Chopin de la música de guitarra. Otorgado en honor a este ilustre músico, el Concurso Internacional de Guitarra Agustín Barrios se ha celebrado desde 2004, con el objetivo de promover y apoyar a los guitarristas talentosos; la ganadora del primer premio en 2011 fue Elise Neumann, y este emocionante nuevo CD es su primer grabación en solitario. Tomando a Barrios como punto de partida, el recital de Elise Neumann cubre obras desde la década de 1920 hasta la década de 1960, unidas por su inspiración latinoamericana y toques de romanticismo. Se incluye una selección de las propias obras de Barrios, demostrando su característica mezcla de elementos clásicos y estilos tradicionales latinoamericanos, mientras que un enfoque similar se puede escuchar en la Sonata Romántica de Manuel María Ponce, inspirada en Schubert. También se incluye El sueño de la razón produce monstruos de Castelnuovo-Tedesco, de tono oscuro y onírico, y Collectici Íntim de Asencio.
