Una importante obra en el desarrollo de la ópera rusa escrita en la década de 1860 en un verdadero estilo dramático romántico que anticipaba las óperas de Mussorgsky y Tchaikovsky. Todo el elenco ruso respaldado por la gran orquesta del Teatro Bolshoi. Alexander Serov (1821-71) es un nombre desconocido para todos excepto para los más dedicados a la música clásica rusa. Aparte de la poderosa mano - Balakirev, Borodin, Cui, Mussorgsky y Rimsky-Korsakov de San Petersburgo, y Tchaikovsky en Moscú, varios compositores pueden reclamar la herencia de la tradición romántica rusa establecida por Glinka. Compositores como Dargomisky, Lvov y Serov en particular. Serov, al igual que Rimsky (marina), y Borodin (químico) no comenzaron como un compositor. Él era un funcionario civil, y estudió música a través de lecciones que recibió de Josef Hunke por correo. Su ópera Judit fue un éxito instantáneo, contando con el joven Tchaikovsky entre sus fans. Su segunda ópera Rogneda le otorgó al compositor una pensión real. Lamentablemente sus poderes creativos se degeneraron después de estas dos obras, y le siguieron una serie de proyectos tentadores pero inacabados. Murió a la edad de 51 años por una falla cardíaca. Sus dos óperas completas ejercieron su influencia sobre Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, Anton Rubinstein y el joven Glazunov. Su música muestra su apreciación por los leitmotivs de Wagner (aunque carecía de la experiencia para usar una técnica tan efectiva), y la forma de las óperas de Verdi y Meyerbeer.

An important work in the development of Russian opera written in the 1860s in a true romantic dramatic style foreshadowing the operas of Mussorgsky and Tchaikovsky. All Russian cast supported by the great Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra. Alexander Serov (1821-71) is a name unfamiliar to all but the most dedicated Russian classical music officianados. Apart from the Mighty Handful - Balakirev, Borodin, Cui, Mussorgsky and Rimsky-Korsakov from St Petersburg, and Tchaikovsky in Moscow, several composers can lay claim to inheriting Russian romantic tradition as established by Glinka. Composers such as Dargomisky, Lvov and Serov in particular. Serov, like Rimsky (Navy), and Borodin (Chemist) did not start out to be a composer . He was a civil servant, and studied music via lessons he received from Josef Hunke via the post! His opera Judith was an instant success, counting the young Tchaikovsky among its fans. His second opera Rogneda gained the composer a royal pension. Sadly his creative powers degenerated after these two works, and a string of tantalising but unfinished projects followed. He died aged 51 of heart failure. His two complete operas exerted their influence over Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky,Anton Rubinstein and the young Glazunov. His music shows his appreciation of Wagners leitmotifs (though he lacked the experience to use such a technique effectively), and the form of operas by Verdi and Meyerbeer.
