La segunda entrega de las Obras Orquestales Completas de Ottorino Respighi contiene una gran cantidad de obras un poco menos conocidas (la más famosa, por supuesto, siendo la Trilogía Romana, emitida en el primer volumen) de la más alta calidad: las luminosas Vetrate di Chiesa (Ventanas de la Iglesia), el ardiente e íntimo Trittico Botticelliano (después de las grandes pinturas de Botticelli) y las hermosas obras para violín y orquesta (Poema Autunnale, Concerto all antica). El primer volumen de la serie Respighi (Brilliant Classics 94392) ya había recibido grandes elogios de la crítica. La Orquesta Sinfónica de Roma y el maestro Francesco La Vecchia han ganado recientemente varios premios por sus grabaciones (Diapason d'Or, Choc de Classica, etc.). Nuevas grabaciones, notas de programa recién escritas, por un especialista italiano. El segundo volumen de 2CD de la música orquestal de Respighi (de un proyecto de cuatro de la orquesta de Roma) se centra en la forma de concierto y en la relación de Respighi con la música antigua. Fue un pionero en este campo y aplicó ritmos y armonías del Renacimiento al vocabulario e instrumentación del idio de Richard Strauss, tanto en formas pequeñas (Aires y Danzas Antiguas) como en formas grandes (el temprano Concerto all Antica). El Poema Autunnale es un desarrollo más libre y rapsódico de la forma de concierto para violín, melancólico y con un toque de melancolía, como corresponde a la estación. En el CD1 encontramos los sonidos sutiles de las Impresiones Brasileñas de Respighi (compuestas después de una gira de 1927 a Sudamérica) que evocan una noche tropical, bailes de carnaval e incluso las poderosas serpientes indígenas (que vio en un Instituto de Reptiles). Los cuatro Ventanas de la Iglesia son apenas más castos en efecto, tal es el amor de Respighi por la voluptuosa orquestación. La considerable producción orquestal de Respighi solo recientemente ha cobrado su propia existencia en el disco y este lanzamiento de Brilliant se anuncia como el primer volumen de un recorrido completo. Además, da una visión pertinente de los dos aspectos que informan el pensamiento del compositor durante su madurez: por un lado, el pasado escénico y musical de Italia... The four Church Windows are hardly more chaste in effect, such is Respighi's love of voluptuous orchestration. Respighi's sizeable orchestral output has only latterly come into its own on disc and this release from Brilliant is announced as the first volume of a complete traversal.
