La muerte de António Fragoso (1897-1918) a la edad de 21 años privó a la Península Ibérica de un compositor de gran potencial, el segundo dentro de un siglo, después del español Juan Arriaga, quien murió a los 20 años en 1826, habiendo mostrado una promesa extraordinaria. Fragoso, de Portugal, es menos conocido que Arriaga, pero la música de este CD revela a un joven compositor completamente consciente de los principales figuras musicales de la época; la influencia de Debussy y Fauré, por ejemplo, se puede detectar en la Suite Romantique de 1916 para violín y piano. El trío, también de 1916, comienza como una obra más formal, pero revela la voz única del compositor en el final, donde una serie de progresiones cromáticas y una explotación del registro más bajo del piano crean una sensación dramática de peso y atemporalidad. También incluido en esta grabación, la Sonata para Violín de 1917 ha sobrevivido como el movimiento de apertura solamente, y muestra muchas de las características del trío, particularmente a través de su estilo melódico afirmativo y memorable.
