Para su instrumento escribió un Cours Méthodique de duos pour deux violoncelles, una colección sustancial de duos para dos cellos. Mientras mantenía la forma didáctica y técnicamente desafiante de la Étude, escribió música que a veces es encantadora, melodiosa, ingeniosa y a veces hilarante, en la imitación de himnos, coros, marchas fúnebres y el sonido de otros instrumentos, como una tuba o una trompa francesa: ¡una pura delicia!
