Renaissance master Girolamo Frescobaldi was a great innovator of the instrumental keyboard style, introducing several new techniques and tricks. His originality on the keyboard inspired many composers after him to pay tribute to his creativity. This new CD brings together compositions inspired by Frescobaldi, various composers such as Reicha, Respighi, Bauer, Feinberg, Bartók and Ligeti, each with their own distinctive style. Italian Sandro Ivo Bartoli, a pianist of colossal technical powers, specializes in rare and innovative repertoire, his brilliant classical recordings of Respighi's Piano Concerto (BC_94055), Busoni's immense Fantasia contrapuntistica, a piano force (BC 94223) and The Liszt/Busoni arrangements (BC 94200) brought him great praise from the international press, resulting in 5-star reviews. A worthy and original complement to Brilliant Classics ' Frescobaldi discography. Although Girolamo Frescobaldi is said to have had a beautiful voice, it was his talent as a keyboardist that brought him into the spotlight in Italy in the late 16th century and early 17th century, allowing him the opportunity to frequent established composers such as John Dowland and Orlando di Lasso. After Frescobaldi was appointed organist of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, many aspiring musicians traveled there to study with him, and his influence on later composers of the Baroque period is undeniable. This version is dedicated to Frescobaldi's arrangements of music, with each composition bearing the hallmarks of his transcriber's distinctive style. In addition to offerings from Respighi, Bauer and Feinberg, the album features Reicha's 36 piano fugues, a work that pays homage to the early Baroque composer through its use of the composer's chromatic highlighting. The same theme also appears in Ligeti's Omaggio a Girolamo Frescobaldi, a modern interpretation using the twelve-tone scale, and the compilation extends its 20th-century focus through the inclusion of Bartk, a composer who, during his years as a concert pianist on tour, he acquired the Torchi edition of Frescobaldi's works during a trip to Italy. In his fourth album for Brilliant Classics , Sandro Ivo Bartoli, one of the leading interpreters of 20th century music, acclaimed as one of the most exciting pianists of his generation, casts a new perspective on the works of the Italian genius and shows the extent in which his music produced a legacy that permeated the classical period and beyond.
